Baking time: (Dutch) pepernoten recipe

On the 5th of December we celebrate Sinterklaas, a Dutch holiday. One of the common foods to eat on this holiday are pepernoten. I celebrated Sinterklaas last weekend already with my friends and decided to bake pepernoten and take some pictures so that I could share the recipe with you. They are a lot more delicious by the way than they look, on the picture above.

  • 250g self raising flour
  • 125g Dark brown sugar
  • 100g Butter
  • 50ml Milk
  • 1.5 tbsp gingerbread spices
  • pinch of salt
Furthermore you will need a baking sheet, some greaseproof paper, a mixing bowl and a mixer.

Step 1: put the butter in your mixing bowl and slowly mix the butter until it's soft.

Step 2: add in all the other ingredients, simultanouesly and mix them together with a mixer.
Step 3: knead the dough with your hands until it sticks together.

Step 4: make a couple of "snakes" out of your dough.

Step 5: cut the dough into small pieces and roll these pieces into the correct shape, until they look something like this. You can make them bigger or smaller or any shape that you want them to be. This is the shape they normally have here in the Netherlands but you can use your creativity!

Step 6: put them in the stove for 15 minutes at 170 degrees Celsius.
Step 7: Enjoy your delicious pepernoten!

I hope you enjoyed the recipe! I would love it, if you send me a picture on Twitter or Instagram, if you try this recipe.
